Interview

Good afternoon,

Ladies and gentlemen

As you may be aware, my name is Hai Van Ha, U.S. human rights commission, in Geneva, Switzerland.

It is a pleasure and a privilege for me to meet the Chairman of  the Republican Party, former U.S. Congressman Peter Torkilson, and Senators Bruce Tarr, today,
to share their views with the Vietnamese American community,
in the Commonwealth,  and across the nation as well.

Good Afternoon Mr. Chairman Torkilson
and Senator Tarr, Would you please introduce yourself and say hello to our viewers ?

Peter: When you were a U.S. Congressmen, I had learned that there were not too many Vietnamese American voters in your constituencies.  So, what motivated you to support the fight for freedom and human rights for VietNam,  by voting to support the funding for Free-Asia Radio?

Can you share with us your plan to reach out to the Grass Root community, when you accepted the position as Chairman of the Republican Party?

According to the Boston Globe, in the campaign for President George W. Bush’s second term in Massachusetts,  90% of the Vietnamese Americans registered to vote as Republican.  Since then, the party neither reached out, nor supported them, as the party once did in the William Weld administration. What is your current plans for the party to reach out to these people now?

There are about 40 days left for the Presidential race, what message would you like to send to our community?

Bruce:  You are not only our Political Leader,  but have also been a friend of the Vietnamese American community, since you became a State Senator.  If you recall, you were the first Senator to help us to raise a Vietnamese National Flag, (The yellow flag with 3 red stripes),  in the State House in April 30th, 1995. Vietnamese Americans, not only in Massachusetts, but also across America was thrilled about that. What made you do that?

You have been continuously working to support the Vietnamese American community,  as well as the Vietnam Veterans. What is the reason that made you kept on doing it, all this time?

What projects, or initiatives would you like for us to work with you in the near future?

Which message would you like to send to our community?
